Tela trip came to end

Tela trip came to end

Goooooood morning Telaaaaaaaa well not really as I played the Good morning Vietnam shout on the phone to wake up us all, however they were already up, so just to be a bit funny. Well since we were up and ready to get on the bus , we decided that coffee will wait for LA Ceiba as with coffee in, the three hours ride on the bus would be a touch challenge as those school buses don’t have toilet facilities on board.

Literally stepped out from the hotel on the main street and the bus was there flashing all the lights and getting out attention, so we hopped in. AS this was one of the first buses in the morning we were only travelers on board but not for long as the bus schedule is on Caribbean time. Settled in we started to move and pretty soon the bus was full of people going to La Ceiba. I have changed seat to be directly behind the driver to get fresh air and view. Initially we got a sort of nervous young driver who stopped the bus few times ands went to check something with wrench in his hand. I was thinking that this looks like the long way to La Ceiba but somewhere fifteen minutes in, he got off the bus, walk  across the street and hopped on bus going opposite direction and new guy hoped in behind the steering wheel.

Not aware that we are signed to national speed championship  for fastest local bus, the driver took off like he carried ice blocks, that need to be delivered before they melt. Some curves he took, I was just waiting for him to pull hand brake and skid through corners. Fortunately we  catch up with bus that was slow and going diagonally on the road that you literally seen front wheels on left  and rear wheels about thirty degrees to the right. This had stopped our Nicki Lauda a bit but only a bit as when we hit straight part of the road, he gunned the engine and over took the crooked bus with waking up oncoming traffic by honking horn. Not sure if my memory is serving me right, I either saw lights of oncoming traffic or they were eyes of drivers in oncoming traffic wide open.

Since we got to La Ceiba in national speed record, we realized that we have more than three hours to kill in town that was deserted and closed due the national holiday. So straight from the bus all of us took the shortest road to the toilet and then with relaxed faces, took seat in the café shop across the street from bus station to get morning coffee and plan what is next.

Very shortly after the coffee we hailed taxi that was substituting for tourist tour and took us all over the beach part of town, but not before we stopped at baleada central in center of the street on old disused railway tracks to get our breakfast. It was nice and Omar even get two of them. Also Chantal altruism showed up as she bought baleada for homeless guy. Then the tour started, first thing we saw as we were driving straight to beach was prison. Seriously prison on the beach, what a concept, during the lunch break try to swim to Roatan or Belize as part of escape prison class. Well the taxi driver named Amor, seriously told us that some part of this lovely stretch is not advised to walk alone. After seeing the barbed wire in Tela we knew that Honduras in nice but not so nice after dark and here, the walls were concrete taller than in Tela and topped with electrical fence instead of barbed wire.

Well all the central American countries have their quirks so ce la vie. He showed us the beach and streets, we were not in mood to walk on and also park with lake, where apparently crocodiles live. Amazing what is possible in middle of the city, but hey if Florida have them why not Honduras.

Eventually after the tour de La Ceiba we arrived to port and after paying port fees, we have arrived to the departure lounge of UTILA Dream ferry. The adventure is coming to the end and on the ferry me and Omar sat at the front watching the ocean and expecting to see Roatan in distance. The afternoon sailing was cool and full of reminiscence about past days. Chantal joined us later and we were just watching the waves and Roatan growing in the distance as we were getting closer. What a great time we had and I defo return to main land but this time I will take Rene with me and ride around without need for taxi or bus and go to see Pico Bonito national park for hiking. Maybe there are some trails for Rene too to test the rally capabilities and maybe join other bikers. So far we paid overpriced taxi for $30 dollars from port to resort what is three times what is should be, but hey again white gringo is like walking ATM here.

Here is the end of the short trip to Tela and now we can get back to our daily lives as Divemasters.
