Dog, man's best friend.

Here In Greece there are more cats than dogs, at least by what I saw. You cannot walk 50 meters and not tripped on cat leisurely resting in your path. They are like the high guru of chill, since they are chilling here 24/7. Even in supermarket lobby, five or six of them are laying on the marble floor and don’t even blink as you are overstepping them.  But try open any plastic packaging and their ears will rotate to the sound, like army radar tracing a missile. If the sound is close enough and loud enough, one of them usually bothers to stretch and cat walk to you. Now I understand term cat walk, what is in modeling. It is just walk of very boring, lazy and uninterested person in this case coat hanger aka bone shaker as real woman has some meat on the bones. Anyhow, cats are everywhere and every morning I open my door, there is the one grey, with green eyes, sitting on the doorstep. I open the door and she is there with the face expression ‘finally, I have been waiting here so long for my breakfast’ and me obediently give her, portion of cat crackers. That is the morning routine for few past months, which repeats daily. However the cat is so smart or I am so domesticated by cats that by afternoon when I return from work as soon as I park the bike she is there again. Sometimes with her kittens and sometime alone, with the same face expression of sour wife ‘why it took you so long to come home?’ Upon which I do what is expected and put outside the portion of cats biscuits. Some daily routine huh. Well it is the local way of living, feed the cats, even if you have nothing with them, then go for your half day frappe session at local café. Or to work in my case.

However on the rare occasion of day off from work, in line with appearance of  comet in earth atmosphere, I do go cycling around to explore the island and see a bit more than the orange trees front of my hacienda. And one of the day, when I was cycling to the top of the mountains, from where is great view I have had an eureka moment. It is one of those moment when suddenly you have clear understanding of something you had not understand previously. For instance the saying ‘I’m dying’ after night out in the morning, Not to be taken literally as that my cause some issues at emergency services. Imagine call to 911 ~Hello~ - Yes how can I help you ?   ~I’m dying~ - sir stay calm and I will arrange the fire brigade and ambulance for your right away, what is your name and address sir ? ~What ??~ I said sir that ambulance is on its way to save you. ~yeah the feck, I need good solid breakfast and bottle of coke to cure that hangover~ - wait sir, you said you are dying isn’t that true ? ~Yeah sure it is, after the amount of drinks I had last night I’m wondering, that I’m still alive~ So now you get the picture what I mean by eureka moment.

My moment of understanding of the sentence ‘Dog, man’s best friend’ came when I was coming down from the hills and when entered the city limits I saw on the main road jeep hurling towards me with Labrador head out of passenger window with he tongue out as is usual. However the eureka moment came seconds after as the jeep passed by and I saw wife and two kids on the back seat, while man was happily smiling behind the steering wheel.
