Virus, panic or panic about virus on planet EARTH.

I just look on some statistics recently and park the emotional side of thing on a side for moment I would look at the numbers.

We have 7 billions people living on planet Earth and about 1.5 mil confirmed cases of COVID-19 ‘not mentioning that there is not enough test kits available to test everyone with flu symptoms’  approximately 350 000 recovered and 90 000 deceased. The Spanish flu raged when there was 2 billion people on the planet Earth and 500 000 million were affected and number of deceased was from 17 to 50 million which to me seems more in line with word pandemic. At least for me, based the pure on numbers as much as in both cases the word estimated has to be use on side of caution.

Now to emotional side of the things. Loosing someone close as family members or loved ones is terrible and deeply disturbing, saddening part. I have lost both parents when they were 65 year old. Dad went to bed and never woke up. Mom was diagnosed with cancer and in two moths she joined dad, she was also 65 years old. My lovely grandma left us too. And the lady I loved very much left us 36 years old. So everyone of us lost someone dear to us in our life and that is fact.

I could not remember the name of the tale where the person grieving about loss of loved one was asked by gods / deities to find a family who did not lost anyone and failed. We are all loosing people we love and that is deeply sad.

However when I look at the current state of us humans, we are thinking that we are immortal and chasing dream of forever young and beautiful. Now when the fear of death is drummed daily, people are getting scared as they realized that in fact, we are not immortal. Scared people in fear are not seeing beyond the fear and react as best as they can to prolong their lives and lives of their loved ones.

But we are all start dying the day we were born. Instead of focusing on chasing the dream of forever young and beautiful, we should embrace the fact that we are here only of a limited time and use this time as best as we can.

In my opinion this time should be used with compassion towards everyone and helping each other’s.

Also critically examine opinions and statements of others before blindly believing to everything we are told. In the statistics provided now about this COVID 19 I would like to see the amount of total population of each country together with the numbers of confirmed cases, recovered case and deceased.  Also the causes of death would be helpful or if there were preexisting health conditions of those unfortunate souls who has departed this world. This way the statistic would represent truth more clearly I believe so.

We all can get statistic number of deaths for every given year and also death statistic when regular Flu raging the world any given year. Every year people die on complication from the flu in much bigger numbers than now and we never shut down the whole planet.

People dying in the wars, famine, poverty, crime every day and we do not shut down the planet.

Maybe it is time to sit still and think about our next step, guided by compassion and clear thinking while listening to our hearths. We had to learn and be better, than we were in past otherwise we will repeat the same mistakes.

People who work hard in these days to keep, supplies coming, rubbish / garbage disposed of, healthcare personnel in front line facing the danger are the people who should be celebrated and thanked for their effort.

Media should be reporting positive news or at least 50-50 to keep some objectivity based on the medical professionals and not opinions of others.

We should be focused on positive side of things and not giving in to scare and fear. Hope and truth should be the focus of our attention..  Mindfulness and meditation could help in stress situation as proven by Mass Meditation Experiment in 2008.

P.S. I like the fact, that closing speech of Charlie Chaplin in the movie ‘The Great Dictator’ from 1940 is still so valid these days. But possibly forgotten as we forgot to look back and learn.
